Favorite Utah water to fish?

Postby DeadI on Wed Aug 06, 2008 11:01 pm

So what is your favorite Utah water to fish. Mine woudl have to be:
1- Fish lake - we have been going down there since I was a little tike.
2- Flaming Gorge - there is a real good chance the next fish on the line will be a great big one.
3- Strawberry - nothing like a big ole cutthroat that is just a 1/2" shy of the slot and you have to throw it back. ;)
4- The high uintahs. Something about those beautiful brooks and grayling that you catch up there.
5- Thistle Creek - got to love the little fish as well, and the fact that there is a chance of hooking into a 18+ inch brown.

Lets here you guys top 5.

I have some Boulder Mtn. Lakes that are on the top 10 list, can't mention specific names here. ;)

I really enjoy fishing streams and rivers the most however. Big fan of spinner casting for German Browns.

Love Brook Trout the best probably, Cutthroat are awesome also.

SO TRUE!!!! No place else in the state can you fish all day long and catch one fish right after another and still go home empty handed. I love strawberry, but I love catching the rainbows. For me the cutts just dont fight enough. I dont know what makes them any different than any other cutt, but I caught a native cutt in a nearby creek a few years ago that just wouldn't give up.

My personal favorite place to fish is on Red Creek Reservoir, second would be Strawberry Reservoir, and third would be Flaming Gorge. I dont get out as often as I would like, and I didn't really get into fishing until just a couple of years ago so that's why I only have 3.

We used to fish Sand Wash Res out by Altamont when I was a kid, but I havent had a line in the water over there for almost 20 years. We fished starvation a few times and the lake lived up to it's name. So we just fish where we know we can catch fish. It's not about the size or number of the fish as much as it is about spending time with my Dad.

as soon as the pond water cools off a bit....... maybe another month or so, its too warm and the fish are lathargic and non-feeding.
It's pay by the hour, lets get a troutjournal meet and greet party planned!!!!!!

I'm all for it. We've got access to a private pond as well. A family friend said he was catching several 5lb rainbows out of it the other day, so i'm gonna have to get a free saturday and check it out.

The Gorge. The Green well below the dam (sec. "C"). Lake Powell. Bear Lake. And that's about all I've fished in Utah except for some Uinta Mtn. streams here and there.

Better yet though, many, many waters in the two states just north of Utah! Or, "Utah, just south of Paradise!" :veryfunny:
