We have a thread on favorite waters to fish, so we may as well as have one on our favorite fish to go after. Whether it be for the fight, the adrenaline rush or for table fare.
Personally I have only caught a handfull of species of fish, but i'd say my favorite fish to catch is the rainbow. It doesn't matter if it's an 8" fish or a 24" fish, 90% of the time they are going to put up a fight. I like to catch fish that let me know they are there. We have a little honey hole where we have it figured out and have caught 50+ fish in a day (catch and release of course). Most are just 12 inchers, but they are hard hitting and like to fight.
On the other hand my favorite fish to eat has to be the kokane. I am fairly new to kokane fishing, but am now in love with it.
So lets hear it guys, we have many different species of fish in Utah. What do you like to fish and why?

Within the next 12 months a few friends and I plan on visiting Utah for a very specific purpose... Tiger trout! In addition, although we hear stories of their demise, bluegill at Pelican Lake is also on the list.
There were no Tiger Trout in Utah when I lived there many years ago, but the gills at Pelican were amazing. I still believe, pound for pound, there is nothing in fresh water that fights like a bull bluegill!

That was my first ice fishing trip was to pelican lake. We actually had just purchased a boat and figured the ice would be off the small shallow lake. We got there and about half of the lake was ice free but the area around the boat ramp was still iced over pretty good. So we went ice fishing instead. We had a couple of veteran ince fisherman showing us the ropes and letting us use their "extra holes". I felt kinda bad cuz my dad and I skunked 'em. They kept coming over to us to see what we were using for bait. It was kinda funny.
I have never caught a tiger trout though. Wouldn't even know where to look for them.

Hey Ford,
I can't help you with brookies in Utah, except for in the southern part of the state(huh Brett). Browns, however, used to be thick in the Provo and Weber rivers. Haven't fished those spots in many years, but you might check them out. You ever come to Colorado, let me know, and I'll get you into a ton of brookies, browns, cutts, or bows.

I live in Denver, but given a couple of weeks notice, I can usually meet you for a weekend about anyplace you'd like within the state. The Grand Mesa, The Flat Tops, and the area around Steamboat are outstanding fishing, and not that far from you.
