GOT CARP????

Postby chet on Sat Aug 09, 2008 11:01 am

This one is huge....
We flyfish for them out here all the time. I got talked into eating some a few weeks ago....... not as horrible as you'd think, but not something I'd care to try again, mostly a mental thing.

Hmmm, I dont know that I'd ever get that hungry..... If I'm hungry and have a fishing pole I'm gonna hold out for something a little more tasty. Like a piece of driftwood, or an old tire or something. IMO carp aren't good for anything but........ Well, actually nothing seems to come to mind. Not even nice to look at.

Carp were actually brought to the USA by early settlers for their value as a food fish, and also as a sport fish.

Oddly enough, these same folks killed Atlantic salmon to use as fertilizer on their fields.

I wouldn't eat one.

LOL, now there's a group of people with messed up priorities. Eat carp and use salmon as fertilizer.

Supposedly Carp are bought by some countries such as Russia and used for different things including food, but someone told me the other day that the carp we have here in Utah arent high enough quality for that. Personally I think the DWR should put a bounty on them and pay buck a fish and turn them into cat food or fertilizer or something useful.

I do a lot of fly fishing for carp on my local warm water stream. It really is great sport.

I agree with the "Mental thing" it pertains to alot of critters besides carp. That is a nice fish, no matter what it is.

What flies do you folks use for carp?
Whenever I need a psychiatrist, I go fly fishing, holding a boat to be superior to a couch any day of the week. --Havilah Babcock
