Copper Mountain Ponds

Postby highcountry on Mon Sep 15, 2008 7:48 pm

Stopped for an hour at Copper Mountain ponds on the way home from working in the mountains this evening. Bite for healthy bows was very good. Wished I could stay longer, since the surface of the ponds was exploding with dimples right as I was leaving.

I used to fish those ponds in the 80's, and they held some real dandies!

You know Jim, the part I like best is that depending on the mood you're in you can get into nice bows, browns, cutts, and brookies right in the same group of ponds. Yeah, you might have to go to the other side of I70, but I can deal with that!

I was wondering if the browns were still there. Those were "the ones" back then. Of course, it was a different place and Summit County was a different place. Nice to know some things stay similar though, especially someplace so visible and right off a busy interstate! (good thing this site isn't yet too busy, or "mum" would be the word ;). I'm sure lots of anglers drive right by them all the time and never know. I know I did for a few years before a friend in Frisco said, "Hey, I've got a place just up the highway . . . "

You're right on the bean, Jim. I participate in a couple of Colorado forums with thousands of pairs of eyes scanning for the latest "hot spot". Goes without saying, this and a "private" forum I belong to are the only ones that get reports on small bodies of water, which means frankly those large forums don't get my reports, since I don't follow the crowds :D
