    Regulations: see state proclamation

Description: The area loosely referred to as the Boulder Mountain is located in Wayne and Garfield counties and includes Boulder Mountain, the Aquarius Plateau, Griffin Top and Escalante Mountain. It is roughly bounded and accessed by Highway 24 on the north, Highway 12 to the east and south and Forest Road 154 to the west. There are approximately 80 fishable lakes or ponds in the area. There are several Forest Service campgrounds at the major access points. Some of the best fishing at these lakes occurs in fall. Types of fish: The Boulder Mountain is best known for its brook trout. Lakes on the mountain also contain rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, tiger trout, splake, and grayling. How to fish: A popular technique is fishing a black marabou jig with spinning gear. A long rod will enable you to jig the lure near cover (vegetation, logs, etc). Flyfishers will generally do best using a sinking fly such as a wooly bugger, leech or scud pattern. The old reliable worm will also work. Special regulations apply to some of the lakes so check the proclamation. These are high elevation lakes so be prepared for any changes in weather.
