Bear Lake Fishing Report

Bear Lake Fishing Report

Bear Lake Information

  • Kind: lake
  • Location: Northern Utah
  • State/Country: USA
  • Region within State: Northern
  • Weather Forecast:
  • Size: 70,000 acres
  • Elevation: 5,924 feet
  • Species of Fish at Bear Lake:
    • Cutthroat Trout
    • Lake Trout

    Regulations: 2 trout. Cutthroat trout must be fin clipped (adipose) in order to be kept. See proclamation for other species.

    Description: Fishing has been fair to good for cutthroat trout and lake trout. Best luck for cutthroat has been by trolling in 15-60 feet of water off the east side just south of the scout camp. Use rapalas and flatfish, and those with rattles are doing better than those without. Also try vertical jigging in this same area. Anglers are picking up both cutthroat and lake trout here. Another spot to try for cutthroat trout is either trolling parallel to shore off the Utah State Park marina or casting from shore off the marina. Trollers are using the same lures as mentioned above and the shore casters are using spoons or rattling crank baits. For the shallow fish try trolling flat lines at least 125' behing the boat or use planer boards and run them close to shore to aviod spooking fish with your boat. For real-time weather (wind speed, water temp, air temp, lake elevation) see the following link: bearlakewatch.com/NewPages/Newlakelevel2.htm If you want to see what the actual weather conditions are at the marina in real-time, you can click on the link to the Live Lake View cams and then click on Bear Lake. livelakeview.com Fishing regulation changes for 2008 include recognizing both Utah and Idaho licenses and the respective state's second pole permits on either side of the lake. What this means is that either a Utah or Idaho license holder can fish on either side of the lake. In addition if an angler also has purchased a second pole permit (two pole permit) then you can fish with two poles on either side of the state line too. For those interested the GPS coordinates for the new rockpiles using WGS84 datum going from south to north are: 41 degrees 58.097 minutes; 111 degrees 23.682 minutes; 41 degrees 58.187 minutes; 111 degrees 23.728 minutes; 41 degrees 58.292 minutes; 111 degrees 23.765 minutes; 41 degrees 58.418 minutes; 111 degrees 23.798 minutes;
